"Teokseni tavoittelee keveyttä reaktiona elämän raskaudelle, pyrkimystä
kohti vapautta, lentoa ja leijumista.
Kuten Shamaani - vapauttamalla oman ruumiinsa painosta, siirtyen lentoteitse toiseen maailmaan, toiselle
antaa mahdollisuuden lentää valtakuntaan, jossa kaikki puutteet taianomaisesti poistetaan.
Muun muassa näistä ajatuksista syntyi teokseni Matkalla Onneen".

Sculptor Pekka Jylhä's work Kohtaaminen (Encounter) at the village of Pasala, in Viitasaari (2001). The wing span of the gilt bronze butterfly pierced with a collector's needle, is about 1.7 m. The work brings to mind the fantastic enchantment of the forest and the holy woods of ancient Finland.
"With its goblins, gnomes, elves and wood nymphs, the forest is the source of primitive religious beliefs and experiences, which the representatives of religions with a written doctrine have always considered a suspiciously heathen place compared with manmade temples and houses of gods."
The quote is from Osmo Pekonen's article in the book Metsään mieleni (For the Forest I Yearn)

"For me Focault's pendulum is the allegory of knowledge and wisdom, the classic symbol of science and the triumph of the machine. It tells about man's greed for technology. Who would testify this, if there were no animals, those few whose fur is not skinned. I'm a bunny at the foot of the hill, upside down in this world."

Pissoire
"In Pissoire (2001) a small motor rotates water in a basin, keeping it in sparkling motion. The sculpture is like a calla lilly with dew on its petals - or does the title of the work disrupt this harmony?
Pekka Jylhä´s works often depict the contradictory relationship between man and nature, in which harmony is at stake. In a gentle way, they refer to the vulnerabilities of our technocratic relationship with nature. The works often combine movements of light and water, various forms in nature or animals with man-made technological solutions, such as the motorised whirls of water in Pissoire. Simultaneously, Jylhä reduces the gap between man and nature.
In its shining white form, Pissoire suggests a dew reservoir, but connects this function to humans by way of the title. Thus, the urban invention, and its function, merge to become part of the cycle of nature. The porcelain-like calla lilly is, if nature so calls, at home as a commode.
Pekka Jylhä takes plenty of time to work through a theme, searching for the right form by making several drafts and scale models. Gradually, as a result of this thought process he brings the work to a successful conclusion. The harmony which brings the form and intellectual worlds of form together is important to to Jylhä and sometimes its essence is brought about through the use of strong, perhaps even surprising and opposing elements."
